planning permission to convert 3 bed semi d to a preschool day care center

    it was only brought to my attention last night that one of the neighboring houses has applied for planning permission for the above. the house is currently rented out at the moment and the house owners do not live near.

    seems strange to apply for something like this for up to 20 children in the middle of a housing estate. i dont know how i feel yet about having a commercial premises right on my door step.

    parking seems to be already at a premium. the extra traffic and noise levels.

    i cant see the immediate neighbors to the left and right been very happy about it either.

    just wondering what are the chances of permission been granted?

    would it be common for a council to grant permission for what essential is a commercial business right in the middle of a housing estate?

    btw there is already 5 childcare centers within the immediate vicinity so the area is well served

    I know of one house in a housing estate that was converted for child care so it can be done.

    In this particular case the owners involved were well liked in the community and had spoken to neighbours etc to get some sort of approval I guess. It clearly worked and seems to be working out well for them parking is an issue particularly with parents abandoning cars blocking drive ways etc.

    Interestingly a neighbour directly across the road applied for planning for a commercial office, solicitor or something. Anyway they weren't to lliked in the community and their application was declined due to objections.

    Suffice to say yes it is possible but you also have the right to object to it.

    thanks for the reply. just something else i was also pondering. would a development like this positively or negatively affect the price of houses within the immediate area?

    It would certainly be a positive for some and a negative for another. If there are 5 in close proximity I wouldn't have thought it would have much impact on prices compared to an actual school for instance. However if it was pick up/drop off time at a sale viewing time it would impact it negatively imo.
