Have just one night in Amsterdam, arriving to Centraal Station so looking for somewhere close by and not to pricey - any recommendations?

You could try the Hotel Ibis, Amsterdam Centre. Part of the hotel is actually built on stilts above the station (we never heard a train all the time we were staying here but we were on the 5th floor) . The hotel is next door to Centraal Station on the right when you walk out the main doors. Perfectly fine rooms and the breakfast was a self serve buffet (couldn't get enough of their crispy bacon). They also held our bags for us which was great on the day of our checkout so we could go sightseeing and pick them up on our way back).

Tram station is only a couple of hundred yards away in front of Centraal Station.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

What's your definition of not too pricey?, Amsterdam is quite expensive for accommodation especially in the centre.

You don't necessarily need to stay right in the centre as the tram system is very good.

Stayed in this one last weekend. The tram stop is just a minute from the hotel and about ten minutes to the stop outside Centraal Station.
