Immobiliser active... after a flat battery

    Hi there,

    I'm looking for some advice.

My Ford SMAX 1.8 Diesel had a flat battery this morning because the lights were left on all night.

We used jump leads, but the engine just wouldn't start.

After about 40 minutes, we noticed that the lights were running..... but the error message 'Immobiliser Activated' has popped up.

It seems that security has kicked in to prevent any engine start.

Can anyone suggest a simple fix to reset the immobiliser this evening? Our house is about 5 miles from the nearest garage.

    Many thanks!

    Disconnect the battery?

I'll try that tonight. Are there any risks associated with that further down the line?

TBH I dont know if you would have to recode your radio etc. Maybe someone else would be able to answer that for you.

Get a piece of wire run it from the thick red wire on the fuse box in passenger footwell tip it off the fuses in the fuse box.
I cant remember which one resets it but its one of them you wont do any harm doing this.
If that doesnt work you will need to get faults erased with diagnostic equipment.

Looks like wait about 30 minutes for immobiliser to time out and then retry...

    Hi all,

    Problem solved.

A friend disconnected the battery. He used a spanner to loosen the nut on the positive terminal and eased them apart. Ten second job.

Upon re-tightening the nut after five minutes, the engine started immediately.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
