    Hi,

We are looking to get the insulation of our external walls upgraded using the SEAI Grant.

I need to confirm Bu I'm fairly certain our external walls don't have the cavity for filling with bead/foam insulation so our only choice is an extrernal retrofit or internal insulation.

The internal insulation won't really be an option due to the inconvenience and hassle of tearing down all the plaster on the walls

I've been researching the external insulation and I'm wondering has anyone any experience with it ?
Does anyone know if its possible to get a brick finish instead of the usual plain render ?
Our house at the moment is red brick downstairs and then dashing upstairs.
We would like to keep the appearance as close to this as we are in an estate and facing the road.

A house on my road got it done two years ago. They had a similar façade and it was reproduced so that apart from the thicker / deeper walls compared to the adjoining semi detached next to it, it looks fairly identical. So, yes they can do "brick" and "render" types and have lots of other choices from what I can see. Looks well and I keep meaning to knock on their door to ask how they are finding it. The one question I'd have is why the installer didn't move the windows out to the new outside thermal line, as leaving them in the original position surely creates a cold bridge around the window due to the gap in the external insulation. There's probably an easy answer but don't know it yet.....best of luck.
