    Hi there,

I know nobody knows my specific case and that every situation/surgeon/hospital is different, but would anyone be able to give me a ballpark figure of what I should expect for private maxillofacial surgery?

I was speaking to my orthodontist today and he was able to give me a quote for the "orthodontics" of my situation (€7,200 for the 3 years) but he said I would also need surgery. I don't have health insurance and apparently waiting lists for going public are several years long - I would like to get this done sooner rather than later.

He wasn't able to give me a ballpark figure because he's not a surgeon, which is fair enough.

Could anyone help advise me? I've heard everything from €3,000 to €15,000! Thanks.

A couple of years ago my wife had a relatively minor surgical procedure which required a 4 day stay in hospital. Our insurance company were billed for €22k. Op if the maxfax surgery involves you being an inpatient in a private hospital for a couple of days, I suspect it would be a lot more than €15k.

Ask your dentist to refer you to the Dental College in Dublin. If your case is interesting to them you can get free treatment, albeit by students under supervision. Worth a shot.

This isn't dental treatment, it is complex maxillofacial surgery where the ops jaw will most likely be broken and reduced on one side to correct alignment and then screws/a small plate inserted to stabilise. Hardly a case for a dental student.

A vey close relative is currently in the process of complex maxillofacial ( top and bottom) realignment. Orthodontics 3,500 and surgery to complete procedure is estimated to be between 10 and 15,000. This of course depends on hospital stay etc . Hoping to have surgery in the autumn.
