I'm am in my mid to late 20s and for many years have felt that I am somewhere on the autism spectrum. Other people have often made comment on it as well, and my friends and family would often joke about it with me.

I have difficulty sleeping ordinary hours, my body clock has always been completely messed since I was a baby.

I am quite good socially, very confident and able to make aquaintances easily but would sometimes struggle to make lasting friendships.

I have certain quirks, like being inable to sit in a room that is poorly lit, unable to not correct a spelling or grammatical error, I feel frustration build and build in my body and even though I try to ignore it eventually I will have get up and turn on the light or correct the person.

I am very sensitive to sound. I cannot stand background noise, like a TV or radio on in the background when I am trying to have a conversation. Again I will frustration build up until I have to do something or I feel like I will explode.

I hate loud places and crowded places.

Does this bother you? if it does can you seek help for your autism? you can do training courses to help with social skills and to help you to deal with frustrations and feelings.

I saw a documentary on RTE recently, have you seen it? it should still be on the RTE player if you havnt seen it, there's a man in his early 20's who has high functioning autism but you'd never know it as he's so good at keeping it under control and he's very aware of what works for him and what doesn't so he can navigate through life quite well.

Maybe look for some autism support groups in your area, they can help you to get a proper diagnosis.

I wouldn't immediately think of autism but it's possible you have some sensory processing issues. Find a local occupational therapist for an assessment and they will be able to tell you a lot. You don't have he social impairment which is the cornerstone of autism.
