Can someone please explain this to me.

We need to move as im not well and we currantly have a 25km each way commute to my sons school.
So the rent in the area for a 3 bed house (we have 2 kids) is approx 1250-1300 euro. There is nothing at all cheaper that is suitable.

I tried to ask a lady in the hap section today but she wouldnt answer the most basic of questions.
Like for eg, If we need to rent a house above the 935 limit weve been told, then is there a way to find out if we would get the top up before signing a lease so you know we are actually able to pay the rent for the time of the lease. Instead she waffled on about a queue and helping others.

She insited we needed to sign a lease and then apply for hap and the 20% top up. Even when we explained to her that the reason we will once again be facing homelessness in the next 6 months is because we cant afford to pay a higher rent, and there is nothing available within their 'limits' Nevermind that my heatlh is causing alot of issues with the commute to schools also. (Moving schools is not an option)

A friend in the city didnt have to sign a lease first and was given a limit of 1080 a month for her and 1 child, yet as a couple with 2 kids were told 935 flat and no other help at all. Even tho we are on the list with medical preference, and both on social welfare.

Is there a way to get the hap top up approved without signing a lease and putting ourselves in debt or on the streets when we cant afford the rent?

Where are you based ,your main difficulty will be finding a landlord that accepts hap first

    im in cork,

Looking to move to douglas area but apparently half of douglas is now in the county for housing purposes.

And yeah finding a landlord is one thing, but if you have no garuntee of getting the top up seems a bit silly, as theres no where for under 1250 or so in the area, and if you dont get the top up how the hell are you supposed to afford the rent.
We are currantly on RA but keep getting review letters so i assume they are looking to cut us off. My husbands been out of work almost 18months now, with nothing comming up in his field of work so its a losing situation for us right now

We only had 2 rent reviews in oct and late november too, and one at hte end of jan.
The letter for this one says something about reviewing our SWA assisting in rent needs. Which sounds very temperary and like they are looking for a reason to cut it off. As its the 4th time theyve requested bank statments since october.
