I bought a ford 2000 . The dealer said everything was fine with the tractor except for a few things . He said the rings wanted to be done. When i loaded the tractor one night he unloaded of his truck without starting it , he said the battery was to weak to start it and he wouldn't give me the battery. That's fine his word because he said the engine was running fine with no smoke in the blow pipe. When i started the tractor the tractor , it was like someone thumping you in the head , it was that bad . Smoke was going everywhere (blow pipe and exhaust) the tractor was very weak power wise . Everything else with the tractor was fine except the engine . Your man didn't stick to his word about telling the truth . I gave him €1100 and it was extra for transport. I opened up the engine to see if the rings were gone . Turns out everything inside was gone . Shaft is scored , bearings are gone and before i stopped her off she was getting ready to seize up. There was oil in her and its brand new . I think someone may have let her run out of oil in her time . Now he said he would give the tax book and front grill and i havent heard from him .

Any legal advice please . I'm mainly concerned on his honesty about the engine

Did you not start it before you bought it ?

Not sure about legal advise but buyers beware me thinks.

Having said that he sounds like a p*****.

Have you asked for your money back ?

You've two choices....Either get an engine for it

Or ring an exporter and cut your losses

After you opening up the engine,no dealer is going to deal with you as they'll say you've stopped over parts off a doberman engine etc

Did by any chance the receipt say sold as seen??

In fairness you wouldn't get much than a chassis for €1100. Obviously this was bought as a project??
You couldn't expect a working tractor for €1100. How much would a replacement engine cost?? Less than €1000??
You would be doing fine with a working tractor for €2100. Ok I'm not factoring in labour costs but Look at done deal and the ****e that's for sale at that price. Once you go less than €3000 your basically in project territory.

Yeah I picked up a 4000 for 3k before Christmas- knew the brakes needed doing and a few leaks here and there and the clutch needed adjustments but that's why it was only 3k

What did you expect for 1100

Legally it would cost you probably as much as you paid for the tractor and take years , I would put it down as a bad experience and move on

Not to derail the thread but what would be the average price for an 88 case with a front bucket?

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

You say he was a dealer. As in a business? You may indeed have comeback.
Did you get a receipt? Does he have a VAT number? Is he an actual official business?

1100 is about the value of a 2000 needing an engine, not a lot you can do as you never started it before buying it and now it's ripped up,as said forget it and move on

You bought a tractor without seeing it running?

As DX85 advised, stick it up on DD, ask 1000, you never know :D
You need to get that log book, though.
