SUSI Grant: How much will I get? + More Q's

Hey everyone I'm sorry in advance but I'm confused over SUSI's "Threshold" information.

I'm doing my leaving cert and am worried about not getting enough points so I'm going to go to Cavan Institute (PLC) and then use the award from that to acess higher colleges...

With the grant, can I get the fee for the cavan AND the college after that? Or only one?

Also I made 6450 in the year and parents combined made 28000 (Social Welfare)
How much am I going to be paid? Or get from SUSI

Hello, you will definitely get suzi. You might even get hear if you apply for it. Suzi covers your fees, whatever they may be, and you 350 odd Euro every month you're in college. I don't know every variable though, I assume it's all the same for plcs. In regards to changing course after first year, susi likes to see progress and in most cases if you start a new course after first year you won't be payed suzi for the first year of your new course, but you can apply again after that year. But in your case it MIGHT be different, I just don't know. If you find what I said to be the case for you, I would suggest going without the grant for your time in the plc course as the fees would be cheaper, and then apply for when you go to the large college of your choice which would have more substantial fees. I hope I helped and I wish you luck in your exams and in your life beyond.

I edited my previous post to add what I know about changing course after first year and suzi, although take it with a few grains of salt.

Thank you so much yet again for updating what you knew! Means a lot! I think I might just go without the grant this year then go for it when going to a higher fee paying college, thank you so much

"SUSI" do not cover any fees for PLC courses and there maybe other factors that determine the amount of maintenance grant you may be eligible for.

Some social welfare payments are disregarded as reckonable income and therefore you may get a special rate grant. Your own income will be assessed but if you were in education while you were earning this money there will be allowances for holiday pay, once you can prove you were paid during holiday periods or if you have since left that employment, it can be disregarded.

When you go to undergraduate level (progression), for eligible students the fees are paid under the free fees initiative but the student is liable for the contribution part. This contribution part maybe covered by SUSI for eligible students in full or part but depending on their reckonable income threshold.

The only way of truly finding out what grant assistance you may be eligible for, is to make an application.

Also, the course you choose to attend, must be an approved course in an approved institution.
