Living in a Mobile home

I posted this question a while back, but the only reply I got was to "Ask DSP". At this point I would rather get an opinion from Boards

My parents have given me a very well equipped mobile home that they no longer can use. It is a large, fairly new and reliable vehicle with adequate Winter heating.

    I am receiving disability allowance.

As I intend to live in this vehicle and travel to various areas of the state, I was thinking about living in it full time and giving up my rented house.

Do you think it would be possible to continue to receive Disability allowance while living in this vehicle full time? Even if I have no permanent address? Would a friend's house suffice for correspondence?

    All opinions greatly received.

You'd need to inform the DSP every time you have a new location.
They need this to proof that you have not left the State and remain eligible for DA.

Thanks for that rabjoshu, but according to the information supplied by Longford, they only ask to be informed about any change of address. If staying in the same vehicle and using the same postal address for mail, why would I need to continually update the information as to where I was parked?

I understood that DSP use mobile phone tracking to check on people in any case.

If you physically move, you are changing address.

For Department of Social Protection payments you give and provide evidence of the address at which you reside, not the address at which you can collect mail

That is the whole point of my post. If I reside in a mobile vehicle then I have a mobile address. I cannot provide any evidence of my address except the registration documents of the vehicle I am living in. Do you think that would be acceptable to DSP?

No because it is not a permanent residence.

Where does it say a residence has to be 'permanent'? All documentation I have received only says I have to inform about any change of address. Homeless people still receive benefits, as do people sleeping on a friend's couch.

In any case, can'ta mobile home can be a permanent residence if I live in it full time and have no plan to move out of it?

Last week you were getting an inheritance and were buying a house this week you're moving into a mobile home.

Calling social welfare will get you an answer as youre obviously not happy with the answers on the thread?

Actually I am happy with the answers on this thread. I have thanked them because they make good points but I still need to question the replies with follow up questions.

Why has last week got anything to do with this week?

You could be a groundbreaker so, maybe set up a club and you's could all park in the local Lidl or church etc.

What has a thread about buying a house got to do with a thread about living in a mobile home?

    Are you serious?

How can you be seeking a job if you just keep moving?

How can I be seeking a job if I stay in one place don't you mean?

You cannot claim Social Welfare if living in a mobile home. You must satisfy the HRC to qualify (Habitual Residence Condition). Homeless people have to go to homeless services and give a letter from their hostel or whatever emergency accommodation they stay in. I don't know what special arrangement the travelling community have.

Homeless people will have their address as a shelter etc.

Your postal address is what the system works off (so they can give payment info to your local post office to ensure your money is there every week etc) and a vehicle registration is not a postal address. You tell them your address is your friends house and your not actually living there then its is fraud so they will cut you off and look to recoup money.

    They're on disability allowance.
