Oil burner problem

We currently have a firebird 35kw burner with a Riello Rbd2 unit.

The tank is full, burner has been checked for air and serviced last autumn.

Last few weeks when the burner is turned on at the timer switch, 9 times out of 10 it won't ignite. The other time it might but will stop after a few minutes.

To get it going, it may involve going to the burner and hitting the red button on the front up a few times (each time it might start for few mins then stop).

I honestly don't know what is wrong with it to be honest. The small reset button on top never needs to be hit to get it going, only the red one. I've also never changed the high limit on it, neither had the plumber who serviced it.

    Any ideas would be great.

its hard to diagnose from afar

but you may possibly have a failing fuel pump issue

    dirty photocell another possibility

I would agree with Jim. About all you can do yourself is give the photo cell a wipe. Turn it off before doing this and don't forget to replace the cover afterwards.

Thanks for the steer guys. I'll give the photocell a look tomorrow and see how it goes. I think a new photocell is cheap enoug on eBay anyway

Call back service engineer and look for a printout from his flue gas analizer.

DIY off ebay is looking for trouble & expense.

You can buy every part locally and cheaper than ebay if you want.

    Ask your service engineer first.
