Water supply pipe repair

    Hello

I must repair and replace part of an old private water supply pipe but am unclear what size it is.

The pipe is the old black type, presumably hydrodare.

The external diameter is about 31mm/ 1 and quarter inch
The internal diameter is about 23mm / just under an inch
The wall thickness is about 4mm / 1/8 inch

I presume it is a 1 inch standard gauge pipe or are pipes measured on outer diameter?

What type pipe fittings should I use? Are the philmac plastic type fittings the easiest to use?

They are measured inside. Its a long time ago for me, but normal gauge used to have red writing every yard on the pipe, blue for heavy gauge.

Cut off a couple of inches and bring it with you to the plumbing shop. They will be able to give you the correct fittings when they see it.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

31/32mm is the nominal diameter of 1" normal gauge hydrodare
philmac fittings are good fittings, you will need the red inserts for normal gauge pipe.
depending n where you get them some suppliers have normal gauge inserts as standard and others have heavy gauge as standard, you will be charged extra for the additional inserts
