    Hello people of wisdom!

    Just got a vw fox.

The stereo is ok, but no DAB or usb port.

I've pulled the original and have the radio from my last car and all the wires etc.....

    But

The wiring loom gives me the main power cables and speaker cables. The radio has those plus an ignition on cable.

In my old car, there were 3 cables so the radio turned off when the ignition was off. This car, using the standard loom, the radio stays on, while the standard radio went off!

I'm normally good with electrics but this is driving me nuts!

All VW are ISO as far as I know, Red is switched 12v yellow is permanent power (for memory or stations etc, and black is ground, the red and yellow are sometimes reversed especially in the case of opel cars, and this may be the cause of the issue. but the only real way to know is to get access to a multi meter and measure all the supplies out to ensure which is which.

What type of stereo did you instal ?

That just shows how to get the radio out.

    Standard ISO plugs

You need to chop and swop wires 4 and 7.

If your original radio was model Beta or Gamma , they took 3 x 12v supplies to power it on. If now you are using the same iso power lead to operate a different radio one of the 12v supplies is now feeding the amp / electric aerial output and this may be the reason your radio will not turn off.

    some daft computer controller.

both live wires are permanently on.

I've run a patch from the ciggie lighter to the third wire on the radio.

    job done.
