Almera will not start

The car will not start, there is no spark at the plugs.
    Does anyone have any advise.
I am pretty sure it is not the sensors or the fuses.
Its 2007 and there are 100k on the clock and be correct.

I think it may be the timing chain slipped.
Assuming this, what are the options?
Do i need to replace chain or can it just be reset?
I do not want to spend too much money as only
2 months tax left and will not be using after this.

    many thanks

I am not 100% sure of anything but i had a mechanic have a quick look and he said not sensors in his opinion.

How do you know there's no spark?

Did you check the fuse box under the bonnet?

Surely any mechanic worth his salt could have diagnosed it while there?

Did he plug in a fault code reader?

Its not a case of knowing less, its a case of it being impossible to diagnosis over the net. Its too vague a problem with too vague information supplied.

    Thanks for that.
I am out of my league here and i was hoping someone be able to confirm if it likely minor electric.
From google they are suggesting timing belt, its a good car and just yesterday when i went to start just as the engine was going to stare something went and now it just turns over. When it is turning over the rev counter does not move.
The mechanic in question is my nephew and his wife will not let him work on Sunday and she is right.
I suppose i am hoping someone will tell me it is not the timing chain. as i said earlier i am out of my league with this but still think it unlikely timing chain jump a cog turning over.

    regards

Was there a noticeable rattle over the past while?

Engines in them tend to be very good and well able for 100k and more.

Gearbox are a different story as they are made of chocolate.

Check all fuses in cabin and engine bay as suggested above.

    Coil could be an issue.

Are the plugs dirty and have they been changed at correct times?

I cant confirm whats wrong with yours bit I had one of them
Like you it wouldn't start one day, went to Nissan as everybody said chain was gone but there wasnt a rattle so wanted a dealer diagnosis......cam sensor was gone.....no voltage being received.....fitted new one for 75 quid incl vat etc....1.5 petrol

Exact same happened neighbours 1.5 ...a 04 model.....

The valve itself is very easy to fit, if that's what's actually wrong with it.

does anyone know if this is the item?

Throwing out questions and not following up with replies to people trying to help you wont get it fixed. My suggestion is either bring it to a garage or pour a gallon of petrol in the window and light it up. Good luck with it

I would be sceptical about that. Even if there is chain "stretch", as it's referred to, the car should still start and drive.

Nope, I've seen them where they don't. That said, there's usually a camshaft position sensor fault or similar showing.
