Nct smoke fail

My passat b5 tdi(older version) failed only on smoke test(second nct attempt). Smoke test shows 4350/m(limits are 2.50/m), and engine/oil temperature was 83°C. As I checked later on oil wasn't refiled(was below minimum line, although mostly I know about it from the indicator, so it was going to indicate probably shortly. Question is could that be a reason for having unacceptable smoke levels?

    No.

Some people will say this will destroy you injectors. But if you put half lite of petrol mix with 2-stroke oil when tank is about half full of diesel it will make it burn lot clearer.

thanks! timing belt should also be replaced about 100k miles ago, and air filter, so it might be the reason...no?

New Air filter would help with smoke test.a new Timing would make no difference. But if it breaks it will destroy you engine

Did you mean a half litre (500ml) of petrol? With how much 2-stroke oil? You didn't say...

Or did you mean 500ml petrol mixed with 500ml 2-stroke oil?

Either way, mixed well before adding to the tank, obviously.

I put 50ml oil with 500 ml petrol. And it worked for me anyway think the reading was 3700 when it failed. And with petrol mix it was something like 1200 + with hard drive to test center (keeping Rev up to 3000 4000rpm)

So you blagged it through the test, and now you're driving around with a dirty filthy polluter.
    Nice.

I had the same issue as you with my golf . I basically do motor way driving ....I'd drive at 120 but not in aggressive driving manor . So when you don't drive them hard it means the exhaust system isn't clean so the engine gets congested that's why you get high readings

Basically buy dipitene from a motor factor and 2 weeks before an Nct when tank is nearly empty . Throw some in first at filling station and then fill with diesel and drive the bag out of it . Aggressively rev it in every gear enough where you see black smoke out the back . When going to Nct same thing drive it hard in lower gears .

I got a fella to do smoke test and my emmisions were high like yours but were practically 0 when I done what I listed above :)

Although oil level shouldn't affect emissions (unless it is overfilled)

    From test manual https://www.ncts.ie/media/1004/nct-manual-july-2014.pdf
the nct tester should check if oil level is good before doing smoke test.
If oil level is low they can refuse test.

There was a gap in filter intake part as it wasnt properly closed, filter itself was old, and one clip from filter box was missing. It passed the emmisions after it got fixed.
