Strange Hyroglyphics right of Ryanair rear door

    I was intrigued by this set of numbers on the fuselage (aft of the rear door) of a Ryanair flight I took home from Nice in November.

    Any ideas what these mean?

    my guess would be that they relate to skin damage caused by steps, and the numbers relate to the reference in a document called the dent and buckle chart

    those small dots right in the center of the sharpie frame might also indicate lightning damage.. once inspected, as long as they are not accompanied by any cracks, they are perfectly ok

    Most operators carry a Dent and Buckle chart where all minor damage like dents, gouges, scratches, lightning strikes etc are recorded after being assessed to ensure it falls with allowable SRM limits. This is done using a simple formula which takes into account the length, width and depth of the damage.
    If it's out of limits you have to repair it, if it's within limits it's signed off and recorded in the D&B and marked adjacent to the damage so everyone can see it's been addressed and to avoid being written up multiple times if it's spotted on a subsequent walk round.

    Here's an example of a typical paper copy of a D&B chart I stumbled upon on the internet,

    But in recent years these things are becoming more advanced and App or Web based systems are becoming more common where anyone with a smartphone or tablet can access the data on any dent or use it to record new damage findings which are immediately opened in the system and available for all to see. Some of these are really clever in the way they link to the reference documents where you simple touch the graphic representation on the screen to add a dent and it automatically opens the relevant section of the SRM for that area and tells you what damage you're allowed to have and what action you have to take if you're out of limits.
