Safety razors - different aggression on the sides

I have a merkur 34c, a merkur slant and an adjustable. I've used DEs for years. Just context.

I got a DE from manlystuff and I'd swear that one side is so mild it barely takes anything off while the other is very very aggressive. Has anyone experienced similar before? By design or defect?

I have heard of a razor that was designed that way but can't think of the name of it.

Is it a three piece razor by any chance? If it is you will need to pay attention when putting the blade it to make sure it's all aligned.

It could be a manufacturing defect though. Email whoever you bought it from and see if they will possibly exchange it.

Yes, it's a three piece. My first. Any advice on the best way to align?

Put a blade is as you would normally do and tighten it all together. One you've done that, have a close look at how far the blade is exposed on each side of the cap.

You may find that one side is sticking out more than the other and that would cause the aggressive feeling on one side compared to the other.

Then it's a case of loosening the cap, adjusting the blade and tightening again.

I bought a Parker OC a few months ago and the blade is skewed when tightened down on it. My Muhle is always perfect. If I was buying another razor I'd stick with the better brands like Muhle I think.

While I don't like their brushes, Muhle make very well made razors. They share the same head with the Edwin Jagger EJ89. EJ razors are beautifully well made, a bit nicer than the Muhle. The EJ89 has a mild shave perfect for beginners. It is still aggressive enough when used with sharper blades like Feather.

They are both great first time shavers for beginners to DE shaving.
But, the material they use to make them is Zamak (pot metal). There can be problems with broken threads with the use of Zamak.
Saying that Edwin Jagger has been known to replace them for free. http://shavenook.com/showthread.php?tid=24121

If this is a concern to anyone, then go with a vintage razor from the 50's & 60's. The golden age of DE razors. Made of solid Brass. https://www.etsy.com/ie/listing/486623877/1959-gillette-superspeed-bluetip-e1-de?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=DE%20razor&ref=sr_gallery_1
    or off of e-bay
