Moss covered stone walls

I have inherited a few acres and the stone walls on the road side are covered in moss. I was thinking it would be nice to expose the handy work of generations past but am unsure if I should or how I should. Would there be any reason not to do this ( ecology, structural) and if not how would I best proceed?

It's a matter of taste but moss and lichen are as much a feature as the stone itself. Now If those stones were rolling ....... but they are not.

And as you rightly say great habitat for wildlife. You'd see many now making 'bug hotels' and here is one ready made!

i'd be inclined to leave it unless its pulling down the wall

Thanks guys. Yes, I think ye are right. But I might do a a few metres to see what it would like. Is a powerhouse the only real option?

That moss costs a fortune in the English garden centres.... used for hanging baskets. A small bag costs around 5 euro in some places.
