Old radios - is there a market?

    Hey,

My car is pretty much dead (RIP), I was trying to see what to remove from it for sale before scrapping. The radio installed was a nice Sony one, which I have boxed back up. The original radio has been put back in, works and all thanks to the code thread here.

The Sony is a MEX-BT3800U, the original Ford is a 5000 RDS Eon (tape player). Is there any value in either of these would people think?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

There was one selling on adverts for 60 Euro, that was 3 years ago though. Put it up for 50 and see how you get on.

You never know with the original radio, you might have someone willing to buy it for 20. It's too modern to be of interest to people looking to keep a car original, and it's too antiquated to be of any decent use in modern cars.

Being honest, I'd say both are worthless. I have several stereos both single and Double DIN, some have bluetooth and iPod connectivity but no one wants them anymore. I had them up on Asverts.ie with absolutely zero interest in them. You may be lucky and manage to sell them but I wouldn't be holding my breath on it.

Unless it's very old original equipment stuff that you could put into a vintage car or something unusual & sought-after (like Becker or Nakamichi) there's no market for them. Even then, the market is very small.

The original radio, no matter how crap it is, will eventuality be worth something to someone doing a restoration.

In my time I've dumped some oem radios. And I've lived to regret those decisions.

Btw.. If anyone has an oem Toyota mr2 mk1 radio... give me a pm.

I shifted the sony on adverts, so that was handy. I'll see about the Ford one I suppose...

I've been keeping an eye out for a new double din for my car. Currently have a JVC but wouldn't mind changing. Was looking for something touch screen, with bluetooth and iPod/iPhone connectivity, but there is very little out there that isn't mad money.

You did well to sell the Sony stereo, as there seems to be very little market anymore. Up to about 6 or 7 years ago, there was a massive market for second hand car audio stuff, but it seems to have really died off
