On Facebook they are looking for owners of the above cars. Are they going to offer us massive money for our cars? Or flog us cheaper servicing? Or tempt us into new cars?

    Photoshoot is what I've heard.
Wish I still had my Aegean Blue E39 now :(

I would guess an ad for the new 5 series with generation of the car going back decades to highlight the improvements and family heritage.

    Is there a re-call?

Oh right I have a dirty cracked bumper at the moment unfortunately. Might not be what they want. But if they replace it for me they can photograph away!

Wouldn't be on all models which spans about 20 years. And they wouldn't do it on Facebook

    Recall, not a photo-call. :)

    The posters above reckoned photocall.

I heard that they are offering driver retraining, after an e39 driver was seen using their indicators. :D

I recently got a recall letter about driver's airbag gas generator malfunction, possibility it's that. Someone left some parts in the wrong place in a factory halfway around the world 15 years ago (maybe slightly misrepresenting the issue, can't remember details).

Update: not this issue if they're looking for the older models too, d'oh.

45th anniversary this year of the 5er would be my guess. That and sales for the first two months of the year here have been underwhelming to say the least.

To tot up the parts and maintenance spent keeping them on the road so some BMW lad can retire to the south of France smiling . .

Awww and I sold my E39 only last week after 13 years. I would have liked that.

Come to think of it. 5 series and I go back. ;) Had my lessons and the test in an E28. The owner of the local driving school was a friend of my dad. His 5er had the 2nd set of pedals and all which is how you learn driving in Germany. Gave the car to my dad who taught me driving in it (my dad was a driving instructor, too). I was spoilt right from the start.

I offered them my E39. They took my details but haven't contacted me yet. They said they need it from 29th March til 5th April at Mondello Park.

Damn! If only I had an E12... Have the other 2 though :D

I'd say given there are still plenty of E39 on the road they are probably not short examples of that model. E34s and especially E12s might be more of a challenge for them though. I'd imagine they would be contacting the likes of classic car clubs for them.

So are they not interested in E28s?
