clutch mf168 stiff

as per title, my MF168 has a v stiff clutch to press, so stiff in fact that it makes it difficult to control moving off smoothly

The tractor has the double clutch arrangement that all MF100 series have. First 70% of travel controls the gearbox clutch and last 30% controls both PTO clutch and gearbox together.

the clutch itself is fairly new, tractor does 300h per year

the release position is ok, its about 50% between idle position and bottom of gearbox clutch postion, the freeplay in the clutch is also ok, I would have a lot of 50mm I think from floating position to before pressure begins to appear under your foot

PTO clutch is also ok as I adjusted it recently, it was v difficult to get it to engage using the clutch pedal and the spacing is 3.5mm or thereabouts, per the book this should be closer to 2mm.

    Any ideas ?

did you grease it at the joint? btw 300 hours is some amount of hours on a tractor like that. Hours in those tractors don't clock up very fast so you must be up on it the whole time

How did you adjust the pto part of the clutch? I have a 168 here and it never worked since a new clutch was fitted works perfectly for gear changes hoping to put a straw blower on her so may get it sorted

It's either the clutch is worn and it needs new (as it's getting progressively worse imo it's this)

    Have you had it adjusted???

Though I did once or twice on 135s take out every second spring in the clutch.....but they were for ould lads and just quick jobs were they didn't wanna spend money

yes no issue with getting gears, the point where tractor begins to move is also fine

Its just its v heavy as if the the springs are too strong

Take half the springs outta the pressure plate assuming it's same set up as a 135??

Though always taught myself that was extreme and wondered about the long-term consequences
