Can hot and cold ceramic tap inserts be interchanged?

I am trying to repair a dripping cold kitchen tap. It's the quarter turn ceramic type. Local hardware will only sell me a pair of the inserts. But the cold one (blue) turns in the opposite direction to the insert I am replacing. Is it OK to use the hot (red) insert on the cold supply, as it turns the 'correct' way? Or is there something in the tap that is designed for cold or hot?

There's no difference between the blue and red insert - apart from the way they turn (i.e. clockwise and anti-clockwise)
