What happened to the EI 747's?

What happened to the Aer Lingus B747-100's, EI-BED, EI-ASI and EI-ASJ? Where are they? Is there anything left of them and can I order any souvenir parts of them for my plane exhibition if there is any left? Also will EI ever get 747's again, why or why not? And if there is one of these 747-100s former EI models lying around, this may sound stupid, but how much would it cost to bring back to Dublin?

    Thanks
    B767

To answer you're first question they are scrapped, possibly bits might be sitting in a desert somewhere in the US.

They'll never get 74s again because they don't need such large aircraft and the cost of flying an aircraft with four engines when two will do means it would not be economically viable to buy or operate one.

Chilling out in Arizona I'd say...

Your man in Enniscrone should put in a bid!

So you are basically saying that there is NO chance in hell that any part of these planes could ever be brought back here for a souvenir?

The above aircraft is in Pinal Airpark, AZ. Go and take a look around!

It is completely and utterly scrapped.

One (ASJ) is remarkably intact and used as a ground trainer for military stuff. It would cost millions to make airworthy

EI will never operate 747s again. Within ten years, there will probably be less than ten regular passenger operators worldwide

    Serious question.

Why do they just leave them out in a desert, surely they'd be economically viable to strip down & totally recycle?

As in worse than the photo? I wonder how old the photo is.

Was just about to mention him with our glamping upcycled hippy ethos these days, I'd say anyone out by Santry, Swords or up the Kinsale road would make a small fortune doing it with that fuselage if it's anyway in decent form..

Well just like when a ship goes to the breakers the owner only really does it when the market price of scrap is good, as seen lately with such new ships going straight for the breakers while the cargo markets are on the floor like. They take all the electronics and components out and leave the hulk until the price is right to smelt it down, which, with aluminium isn't as easy or as commonly done as steel, but that's for a chemistry lecture

Did I imagine it or was it used for assault training in Delta Force?

    Edit: My memory failed me.

    Deltaforce13.jpg

Interestingly the real 707 that Chuck Norris stormed in that movie used to be Aer Lingus N778PA.

I'm a regreg of B767 as I stupidly got locked out of my account by forgetting the email, mods can PM me about this. ASJ would be worth millions you say? I better go and check my piggy bank then...
In my opinion, asj is part of Irish aviation history. So, I would like to do a quick survey. My question is: would you be in favour of asj being returned to Ireland to be a souvenir of Irish aviation? Yes or no?

Looks like at least one aer lingus 747 is held by logistic air according to this https://www.wired.com/2014/05/pinal-airpark/

You could try get in contact with them if they might sell you parts off it.

Wasn't one of the 707 also used in one of the airport films?
I remember hearing that a door off one of the 747 is in Dublin Airport somewhere for "training". Could be a wild story tho, never heard any more than that.

It's worth bog all. It'd cost millions to restore

It would be cheaper to buy a new one than to restore an old one to active service.

I defiantly know that people bought souvenirs that were made out of EI-BED, I think someone made an office desk out of its door or fuesulage

Minimal moisture, so the frames wont rust. This makes it easy to store them long term and wait until the price of aluminum suits the breaker.

Just looking at this Pinal Airpark place now on maps, and cans see three 748's sitting there. The Seahawks livery being one of them.

haha, good question.... and the answer is no (apart from a symbolic key, which has no actual use)

    No.

Maybe some have keys to the physical doors perhaps.

Private aircraft have keys I think.

Why would you want it back anyway?

    Nostalgia is a terrible motivator.

small, single engine planes typically do have keys for ignition and doors/canopy. Anything larger wouldn't have keys for ignition, but some piston prop twins, like sceneca might still have keys for doors. Also some private jets have locks on doors and cargo compartments. Large passenger jets don't have any keys

As well as full anti theft systems with video cameras and motion detectors.

What exactly would happen if ASJ was brought back here? Where would it go? Could it become airworthy again?

With a stupid amount of money yes.

    Realistically no.

And what about BED? That cockpit section in 2004, is that still there? Is there any piece of BED still existing and how would I get it?

I knew this guy sounded familar http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=97661304&postcount=36 . Would appear to have something of a EI-BED fixation.
