Heading over to Munich in June for a week so took the opportunity to book the tour of the BMW Plant & Museum.

Anyone have any impressions of it? Worthwhile?

I was over there last year for the Beer Fest and turned up on the day. I did the museum tour which was okay but because it was a busy period I was told that I should have prebooked the factory tour part (Which I will do this year). It's very close to the Ubann Station (Around 5 mins walk).

BMW-Welt is really just a very large - hugh - BMW showroom and store - it's the heart of the overall set up there. It's great fun all the same. Some really interesting high-spec models on show. I got to see the i8 the week it was released for display.

The museum and factory tour are across the road from it. BMW Welt on-demand will 'rent' you a car for the day too should you want to - usually high performance models. I took out the new (at the time) M550D and that was barnstormingly good fun... Think it was €50 for couple of hours or something. You need to book in advance though.

The Museum is fantastic too - a nice addition is the Rolls Royce display.

Bottom ls if you like your BMWs and cars in general, you'll love BMW Weld.

You can rent some nice m cars from the museum for a few hours and go for a blast on the autobahn for reasonable money. They even preload nice routes onto the sat nav. Highly recommended

And as posted in my earlier link, if you rent the car for 3 hours you actually get to keep it for the entire day.

I know not close enough to Munich, but the the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart is well worth a visit, everything from road vehicles to formula 1 to Maybach

And if in Stuttgart, then the Porsche Museum is a must see also!

What kind of reasonable money are we talking?

EDIT: €75 per hour. Definitely doing this sometime soon. :-)

    Yep, btdt twice. Highly recommended.
Book the English speaking tour in advance though.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Been there, was okay but Mercedes museum was better by far. Plus, as already mentioned, if you in Stuttgart to see Mercedes museum, Porsche museum is not far away.
