    Hi,

I have an issue with these UKTV channels FTA on Astra. I am accessing Astra using tvheadend and Kodi on RPi on the client side. Just these three channels have the issue and it does not happen on other hardware (its perfect on Kodi on the Mac).

The issue is that these channels (and only these channels) run for about 3 seconds then the video stops (the audio continues) and then return (in sync with audio so its like dropped frames). This continues repeatedly making these channels pretty much unwatchable.

I rescanned the muxes and still the same issue?

Whats so special about these channels or this mux?

Nothing that I am aware of.
    The three work normally here.
Backend using tvheadend, and client machines are a variety including R-Pi.
All my dedicated devices run LibreElec, including the backend.
PCs run Linux with Kodi and VLC.

You have Kodi on R-Pi on client device ...... what operating system? Have you tried an alternative to test if the OS is the prob?

What backend is being used? Hardware & OS ...

Have you tried VLC on a PC to determine if the problem is backend or client device?

I am seeing it on both LibreELEC and OpenElec on 5 different devices. Backend is RPi 2 running Raspbian which is amazingly having no issues with distributing 4 HD channels around the house. The bus on the Pi craps out beyond 4, but the CPU load is small.

As i say, it works fine on Kodi (& VLC) on Mac, so I am confident that it is a client problem but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. I rarely watch those channels, but it is bugging me, especially as it is only that mux. Everything else is perfect. These were previously working correctly with the same set up.

You could try, on one of the client devices, to disable the tvheadend client, and instead use IPTVSimple pointed at Backend_IP/playlist

That would eliminate one part of the puzzle if it too has a problem.

Are your client devices up to date?
    Tvheadend updated?
    Mine shows
    HTS Tvheadend 4.1.2415 ~ LibreELEC Tvh-addon v8.1.109
Not that I can see how that would affect only three channels .....

I will try the IPTVSImple test when i get back home tonight.

Running the same versions as you.

Incidentally, are you aware of the very sweet XMLTV feature in tvheadend 4.1 where you can export XMLTV from your EPG using:
    http://tvh-ip:9981/xmltv # short alias for http://tvh-ip:9981/xmltv/channels
    http://tvh-ip:9981/xmltv/channelname/*channelname*
    http://tvh-ip:9981/xmltv/channelnumber/*channelnumber*
    http://tvh-ip:9981/xmltv/tagname/*tagname*

No, I was not aware of that feature, thanks for the head's up. ;)

OK, I can now confirm that what you posted above is visible on those channels when using a R-Pi with LibreElec Ver 8.0.0

Apologies, I had previously checked using my PC which had no troubles at all.

    UPDATE:

I tried the same channels using IPTVSimple and I see no glitches in the video.

I changed my R-Pi 1 from tvheadend client software to IPTVSimple, and using the above xmltv I have the guide as well.

No problems with those three channels using this scheme. ;)

I have not used much else so don't know if there are many negatives to this way of presenting the channels.
The switching of channels 'seems' to be a bit faster than when using the tvheadend client software.

I even have the channel icons.
    Nice! :D

This is kind of interesting way of doing it, but there are some drawbacks:
    1. No centralised recording or timers
    2. No Channel groups. You can build your own on the client side.

I don't see any improvement in channel switching times using this method, but as you say the three channels mentioned in this thread do work correctly.

Yeah I since noticed the lack of recording from the client Kodi window and lack of grouping too ...... although my channels were in proper order so the radio channels were all together at the end of the list.

I agree it is not really an acceptable alternative.
What it does is show up that the R-Pi is quite capable of playing those channels (in case we had any doubt), and it seems to point to the tvheadend client plugin as having some weird problem.

According to KingofSat Really and Drama are changing TP to 12129 V 27500 2/3
I haven't checked this myself yet.

This is the transponder I am listening on ...

It seems that the problem is somewhere in the "htsp" stream profile that the tvheadend client is using. The IPTV approach mentioned above is using the "pass" stream profile...

    They aren't moving TP

Those new tests are for Irish Adverts versions to be launched soon

I tested the stream from tvheadend using VLC + htsp plugin this am, with similar results.
Lots of dropped frames giving stuttering video.

This would imply that the problem is in the hts stream generated by tvheadend for those three channels, maybe due to something being different in the broadcast itself which it does not like.

Whats so special about these channels or this mux?

They're MPEG2 SD channels @ 576i. About as low res as you can get.

Try forcing video acceleration in your settings for MPEG2.

Check to see if the interlace method is YADIF2X.
