On my way to work today I tried to over take a car and there was less power than usual , then the steering wheel started vibrating very bad - I drove on a bit looking for a place to pull in and it was pulling to the left, well I got out n checked and there was steam /smoke coming from the front left wheel. I let it cool down then drove back home and it was fine - what's the problem ? I was thinking the caliper was stuck - when I tried taking it off the slider pins where hard get out because they weren't greased the last time id say , is there any thing else that can be the problem

    (Car is a 06 passat)

Did you put your hand on the alloy? A stuck caliper will generate a lot of heat and smell.
Did you grease the slider pins now?

I did but it wasn't very hot but still warm , I didn't drive far with it stuck I'd say that's why it' wasn't very hot , iv the caliper off now and was thinking of getting a new one

If you cleaned up the pins and re-greased them and they are moving freely then you don't need a new caliper.

Doesn't that point to seized piston(s) then? So would need to rebuild or replace the caliper
