Ceiling mounted/island kitchen extractor fan

Another query, the wall behind the hob was partially removed and there is no extractor fan resulting in a humid kitchen and the smell of cooking hanging around.

We have an installer to fit whatever fan we choose and it can be vented to the outside easily enough via a duct. The high end ones seem to be well over a grand, the odd brand ones a few hundred. Looking for a recommendation for something middle of the road - decent extraction rate and not overly noisy!

How long is the horizontal run?

You don't have to use a chimney, seen this in a kitchen showroom recently and was very impressed. They have built the extractor into the hob . I think it cost circa €1800 but that includes the hob, the actual extraction unit is very slim and it can be charcoal filtered or vented externally. The external option will ðepend on whether island is located on an external wall.

Wow that's some gadget. I'd be worried about necklaces & scarves & long hair getting sucked into that :D Unfortunately 1800 completely prices us out.

The current hob is perpendicular to the external wall - L shaped kitchen.

I thought an island to be an island had to be away from an external wall.
