Making our balcony private

Balcony looks out onto a green area, not facing anyone else's home, so a bamboo screen the height of the balcony will suffice for the front, but I would like some height to cover the sides of the balcony to give us some privacy from our neighbours when sitting out there.

    Front: H 1M x W 4.75M

Sides (x 2): H 1M x W 0.75M - this width is just the area that needs to be covered, there is more room between that and the glass of the actual window and door, if I were to put a pot there say.

The bamboo I can get from Homebase, Woodies, or eBay, but if anyone knows of anywhere selling it at a good price please post.

The main reason for my post is making the sides of the balcony private, and I am looking for suggestions for that. Either two large plants that would sit in pots on the floor, or something that would hang on the outside of the balcony bars. I would like it to extend at least a metre on top of the height of the balcony.

What is the best way to do this? Keeping costs down a bonus!

Also, my housemate would prefer the fake grass stuff, but she is concerned it will catch more leaves or damp etc., is this the case?
