I cant really remember the exact location of the handle to drop the hitch...but something like this....

Raise the lift arms up to the highest possible level, maybe look out the back window or have someone check at the hitch to see that it moves slightly when the arms are up to the last. Then you know that the lift is up to the top and hitch can be dropped.

Now you need to find the lever to release the catches that hold the hitch up. I think this is a black handle on the floor of the cab to the right behind the seat. When the lift is fully up, you should be able to pull up this handle (attached to a wire cable). This will release the catches that hold the hitch. While holding the handle in a pulled position, lower the lift & the hitch should drop.

I hope I am right in this, I cant really remember but most tractors of that vintage operate the hitch something like that.

As described by Jimmy basically. The lever to release the hitch is behind the console with lift and other control levers, to the right of the toolbox if you were looking from the rear. AFAIK you push it towards the right hand wheel to release and pull back towards tool box to catch it back in.

This Ian how it works on our 885xl so I'd expect it's the same.
It's very stiff if not being used regularly.

Also, when hooking it back on check both hooks secure the drawbar back in place, ours is worn and sometimes only one hook gets back on and it could lead to damage if you were drawing anything heavy.

The wire cable has a tendency to stretch over time and may need to be readjusted. Also check that it's not broken.

You also need both the inside and outside handle to the top before going near the hitch lever. Then drop the one nearest the wheel first, then the inside one. On the one I had you used to have to push down on the hitch handle to release it.
