    Hi,
Looking for advice. We are renovating an old rectory and we are currently in the basement, the stone is exposed and looks nice but is too dark we cannot afford to lime plaster so thinking of painting but we are struggling to find something that will work the issues are as follows, it needs to be breathable and also stabilise to reduce dust coming off walls, any advice welcome.
    Thank you.

    Hi mate
Lime wash is best solution but u need a lime primer first. This will solve your dust issue. If the mortar has crumbled then it will need repointing
