I noticed today that spin1038 is putting its news out at the top of the hour instead of at quarter to...I thought going non stop across the top was one of their big differentiators. Why have they changed?

Dublin radio is coming more and more homogeneous!

I think they share the news feed/presenters from Today FM and 98FM so likely they couldn't do it 15 minutes early and share with the rest later.

No, SPIN has its own news presenters and pretty distinctive style so the other stations have no bearing on when they do it- this seems like a fundamental change in format to the programming in that 10 Spin Hits In A Row now starts at the top of every hour at the end of the news. It also sounds like they've shaven even more time off the bulletin- news sounds shorter, no ad break before entertainment. As a long-time listener to SPIN, it's definitely strange and taking some getting used to. The news time is different, the shows start 15 minutes later. Also seen some people annoyed that the Noughty Threesome in the morning is now after 9am which seems like a terrible decision seeing as it was previously scheduled to be on just before 9 as people are getting to work/ school.

Anyone heard Spin South West this week and if its format has been changed too? Checked the website and the show times are still listed as X:45. Could just be 1038 that has changed or else the SW website has yet to be updated.

I did yesterday and didn't notice any difference to normal scheduling.

    They're doing traffic now too.

While all the stations are aiming for younger listeners, are Spin aiming for older??

You're out of touch... In Dublin, every single kid is bought a Golf or Almera by their parents the day they hit 16 - no exceptions - and told to stay cruising up & down the M50 until dinnertime. More vital than paying for wasted water. So, catering to their market quite well imo...

Unless there's a major incident or a road closure because of a fatality, road traffic reports on most days are a total waste of the listeners time.

Yeah traffic is always the same.. the dunkettle interchange, southbound on the n7, the m50 busy in both directions , you could write it yourself , no need for the AA

The irony is I once heard your man Conor Faughnan say, they never have enough time to deliver all the traffic news. It's actually the opposite. Too little useful information

When I lived in Germany, the daily traffic report usually went - "traffic busy in all the usual places". Three seconds or less.

Spin should aim for a 5 word traffic report, like the weather...

The day I posted it was Andrew from news doing traffic and it sounded like he was taking the piss with it a bit, in the sense that there was nothing new but he had to do it anyway, so tried to be somewhat ironic.

IS the section sponsored, I'd say its just to generate money.

Must be a newsreader shortage in Ireland, anyone else think that most of the current spin ones are dire?

Sounds like TY radio. Then you go over to fm104 and the professionalism is like night and day.
