From this page ( http://www.rsa.ie/en/RSA/Learner-Drivers/The-Driving-Test/What-it-is/ ), brings me to the one below.
    Driver Training
    Important notice for learner drivers
If the date of issue on your first learner permit in Category B is on or after 4 April 2011, you must complete Essential Driver Training (EDT) before you are allowed to take your full driving test.
EDT is not required if your first learner permit was issued before 4 April 2011.

you can't, because your driving instructor must put your driving number in the database that will allow you to book a test

Just FYI, I completed my EDT and booked my test in September because of the wait times in the hope that when the 6 months was up (December) that I would get a test really quick but it was quite the opposite. As soon as my six months were up I was put at the end of the queue and I didn't get any correspondence until the middle of January. I know your ADI has to upload all your EDT lessons but I don't think that will stop you booking the test, but in my experience, it won't have any benefits booking your test early unfortunately.

First-time learner permit holders (in certain categories) must wait six months after the date of issue of the particular licence category before they can sit their driving test. In the past, some people took the test shortly after getting their first learner permit and research has shown that the more practice and experience a person gets, the better a driver they become

You can book the test whenever you like. A date won't be allocated to you until your 12th and final EDT lesson is in the system but that doesn't prevent you starting the process and may save you some waiting time.
