Connecting flight Heathrow

    Hi all

Is 1hr20mins enough time to connect in Heathrow?

Flying from Dublin to Heathrow with United (operated by Aer Lingus) and connecting to a United flight to San Francisco.

From what I can see, they both use Terminal 2 and seeing as how they are under the same codeshare, I assume the bags will be transferred automatically.

Would we have to go through security again?

That's going to be extremely tight OP. I've rarely landed on time when flying to Heathrow. You will have to go through security again too

Thabks for the reply, I may look to see if they have another flight out that day. Would I be right in assuming the bags will automatically be forwarded on?

    This should be fine

Aer Lingus is the most punctual airline at Heathrow

Just head to flight connections, rarely busy, through security and back into the terminal.

Its a legal connection assuming its all on a single ticket, if anything goes wrong you will be put on the next available flight to destination

is it all on one ticket or did you book 2 separate flights?

You're not seriously suggesting that the OP booked DUB-LHR with a US airline, then (as a separate exercise) purchased a LHR-SFO flight on a different booking....

and then by complete co-incidence, both flights came up with United flight numbers!

That's not enough time really. If anything goes wrong you are in trouble.

Although you are in the same terminal you need to go through flight connections, which means a queue for security, and another queue for what I think is immigration.

There may also be a shuttle/train to your next gate.

I got caught once but luckily BA where cool and got me on the next flight. They have a desk to arrange that at flight connections.

They get your bags off the plane and put them on your new flight.

Thanks everyone for the replies, much appreciated. I think overall the risk is slightly too high.

So looking at other options for that day, I can fly into Heathrow Terminal 5 with British Airways and change to Terminal 3 and fly on to San Fran with Virgin Atlantic. The connection time for that is 2hrs 40mins.

The price is the same and I'm hoping I will be able to buy it all as one ticket on skyscanner this evening.

    Thanks again everyone

They're both Terminal 2 so you've no shuttles to get. It's tight but quite doable, your Aer Lingus flight would need to be fairly spot on. If delayed then you may make the transfer but your bags may not. If very delayed you may not make it but would be put on the next available flight. Both of those would need to be considered as if you're going for a short trip it could screw up your other plans

if you stick your flight numbers and dates into this site it will tell you if its a "legal" connection or not:
    http://www.heathrow.com/flight-connections

From memory 55 minutes is minimum connection time inter Terminal 2

Just be aware that the gates that AL drop you at can be a long, long, long walk to the wide-body gates that united may use, so you wouldn't have much time for dallying

OP, what time is that Aer Lingus flight to Heathrow and what is the scheduled arrival time? Most of the time the flight should get in early as with Heathrow slots all allocated, they tend to get away bang on time if not early from Dublin to make the arrival (landing) slot so barring weather problems (esp. fog), you should get to Heathrow with (I would estimate) a two hour window to make that transfer.

The Heathrow website allows you to enter the arriving and departing flight numbers and it tells you what you need to do for the transfer and how long you will need. I entered EI152 (DUB-LHR, arrive 08:05) and UA949 (LHR-SFO, depart 09:20), it said that in the example I would have 1h 15m and that the transfer requires 60 minutes - it's all within T2.
