    Same!

Well, I've a pi 3 set up with RetroPi and a pi 2 running MotionEyesOS. But it's always a case of "sure I'll find a use for it!".

I've absolutely no confidence with soldering / electronics so I'm limited to attaching the (very easy) on board camera or other "plug and play" peripherals.

How do you find motion eye on the pi? I installed motion (not motion eye) a couple of years ago and use it for video survallance but find the video a bit laggy.

I have the NoIR-cam set to 640x480 and 30fps and video streaming is (mostly) stable. It will "jump" a second here or there, but MotionEyesOS has a feature to overclock the pi.

Have it uploading an image to Google Drive at set intervals as I haven't tried to set up port forwarding / SSH on it... yet. Don't want to break anything!

I bookmarked this link earlier to see if I can change any settings (to maximise performance)

    Hi guys,

Purchased the Raspberry Pi Zero W as my first foray into the world of pi...

Anyway was looking at this project https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-security-camera/

Would motion pi run on the Raspberry Pi Zero W? And if so when it comes to installing it on the sd, which version do I go with as there are only option for Raspberry Pi 1/2/3.

    Github is here https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/releases

As I said, I'm a complete noob so any help would be much appreciated.

That's the exact guide I used too!

I found this on the facebook page for motioneyesos:

    nEx6dV4.png

And in the notes of the pre-release (link)
OS: raspberrypi: added support for Raspberry PI Zero W board

^ So, I'm assuming it's the raspberrypi zip you download (not versions 2 or 3).

I've run a pre-release on the pi2 without any issues.

EDIT: If you were stuck or didn't want to format your sd card with that pre-release you could install Raspbian (link), and then install picam via the terminal/python (link).

Cheers for the reply so which of the downloads would I go with as I don't see one that specifies for the Pi zero W?

Sorry, I was ninja-editing all over the gaff. I'm assuming it's just the "raspberrypi" (not the 2 or 3).

You could message the facebook page or ask via the github issues page: https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/issues

Oh, wait I found this question...

If you scroll down a bit to "wdawson001"'s comment.
    Cool,

Raspberry Pi Zero W - MotionEyeOS

Download the latest img for MotionEyeOS - recompiled from the updated firmware to work with the Pi Zero W
    Install in the usual ways
Once flashed, open the boot partition and add a file called wpa_supplicant.conf
Open and edit wpa_supplicant.conf with the instructions from here
Once booted, it should connect to the wireless automatically and you can just find the IP and log in
    Notes:

All of this has been compiled from the repository, no changes on my part
This is not officially supported yet, so don't annoy @ccrisan if this doesn't work
I've tested it with 2 Pi Zero W's with the official camera module - I haven't tested it with any usb cameras
No drivers need to be copied
    EDIT:

SSH is not working with this release on the Pi Zero W

The link that user posted is the raspberrypi 1 image. So, I'd suggest going with that in the pre-release download.
