Sorry for being lazy as I could do most of this using Google.....

I'm going to New York, USA next month and was going to look at some new shoes (probably Footjoy).

Prices in USA don't appear to be that much cheaper so has anyone who traveled any advice for a bargain? Is it best to look at the outlet stores for older models?
I fancy a new 3 and 5 wood. Is it hard to hand carry home and what are the risks of being stopped for duty?

I was there pre Christmas and with the dollar rate these days, prices weren't amazing tbh. Still a little cheaper all the same. I'd say your best bet is to find one of the bigger golf outlets like an Edwin Watts, PGA Tour SS etc and they usually have a clearance section - can be a bit hit and miss with sizes but usually some good deals to be had on the higher end models, e.g.last years Footjoy DNA.

Re bringing clubs back, if you'll have your golf bag with you, I'd say the risk is minimal if the clubs look a bit dirty & used. The couple of times I've seen guys pulled its been standard practice to remove the head covers to inspect the woods. If you're just carrying back two clubs in their packaging you're more likely to be pulled I'd guess. Depends how busy they are that morning.

Thanks Russman.......that's a plan then. To go look at the clearance sales and maybe pick up a decent pair of last years shoes. I'll also look for "2nds" gloves (ones with minor blemishes).

With the minimal difference in prices now I can't see the benefit of buying shoes in the USA.
What happens if they are faulty u will have no place to return them in ireland resulting in having to buy a pair here anyway.

As for buying already faulty gloves???

Who said they were faulty? Minor blemishes are slight imperfections not on the main grip points. They won't affect the grip nor will the glove last any less time.......the gloves are ones that cannot be sold at full price.
