    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a documentary/study/info about how (farm) animals are treated in Ireland and the EU. I've read/seen a lot about the US, UK and a few other countries, but I haven't found anything specific about Ireland. I've read about EU animal welfare laws and the Food Safety Authority's requirements for slaughterhouses, but I want to know if it's as bad here as it is in the US.

Now, I think it probably is, but I'd like to make sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a good speech that was researched on the topic of Irish animals, this was made last year at vegvest by a guest speaker. They put a lot of effort into getting the facts.

It'd be better than the US but you still aren't likely to find it too appetizing - the "it isn't like that here" sarcastic section title there is accurate enough - its not all sweetness and light by any means.

There's also a surprising amount of halal slaughter here.

Thank you Tar.Aldarion, that was exactly what I was looking for. I knew what to expect, but it was still horrifying. I'm assuming then that sheep are treated the same (as it wasn't covered in the video).

L1011, from what I've seen, it's as bad as the US, though maybe on a slightly smaller scale.
I think halal and kosher would be at least a little better; paralysing the animal with a bolt gun or electrocuting and then slaughtering it can't be more merciful. At least with halal and kosher it's over more quickly.
