Being reported as a death by The Journal now too.

The comments about cyclists being dangerous over there are disgusting.

RIP to the poor man :(

    Again RIP.

Is it just me that has a burning desire to know the details of these recent deaths?

As a daily commuter and weekend cyclist, if there's something to be learned here that may help me and other cyclists stay safe, i want to know about it. Also drivers need to hear these details too... (obviously too soon for these details)

Furthermore, we need tv adverts that are as thought provoking as the drink driving adverts showing the carnage of what can happen.

Probably not the place to discuss it but I have the same concern...

RIP to the cyclist. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

RIP another tragedy. All too close to home for me - the stretch on the quays from the Guinness brewery to park gate street is the worst on my commute.

Not here and not now. The authorities need to establish cause/fault and any discussion of specifics here could prejudice any investigation. It can also be potentially distressing to anyone who may know the victim and reading the thread.

Wider threads are generally fine, except in the aftermath of such a tragic incident as that almost inevitably leads to comparisons and possible speculation.

    RIP

    RIP.

Been there today with my kids in a trailer, the road before the entrance to the park was blocked off completely by Gardai... My first thought was that someone must have died if they're blocking such a busy route... didn't take this seriously until now :(

Condolences to all who love the cyclist, and to the driver.

Very sad, I run in that way most Monday mornings, except today. Its's a junction where you to be so careful, cause whoever comes out of that gate, near always comes out too far.

A terrible tragedy, and something that will be playing heavily on the minds of those involved and those who are friends and family. Please remember we do not allow speculation on such matters for a variety of reasons, the primary one being courtesy to friends and family.

Condolences to the friends and family of the cyclist, none of us ever expect not to come home, whether we are out with friends, commuting to work or just getting out of the house to clear our head.

I got hit by a car at islandbridge last year too.

    RIP.

    Awful news.
I know a lot of people who cycle that route and heart was in my mouth til I knew all were ok.
I'm sure many people out there unfortunately got the news they dreaded.
Can't even think the pain and hurt they are feeling :(
Thoughts are with the driver too.

    RIP. Very sad.

This happened just outside the Islandbridge gate, as people have mentioned above.

I witnessed the aftermath of this accident, and can't comment on specifics.

It's very much, in my mind.

All I'd like to say is RIP to the victim and driver. Tragic for both and families.

R.I.P and my sincerest sympathies go out to his friends and family.

I cycle to work myself and I've got two kids cycling to school and when you see this, you think to yourself, am I doing the right thing?

Unfortunately, at many junctions, whoever comes out of the gate or side road or petrol station seems to come out too far. The cycle lane very often turns into the pulling out space for the exiting car, for no good reason. These aren't junctions with restricted visibility - just people sticking their nose out into traffic in the vain hope that it will get them to the end of their journey quicker.
