Vat question

Have a question relating to vat registration.

Say for example, you earn 25k per annum as a self employed person offering a service. No other income.

If you register for vat, do you need to charge vat on all invoices once registered - or only when in the year you foresee yourself going over the threshold?

    Happy to clarify if needed

    Thanks

Once registered you charge vat. If not registered you don't.

If you forsee yourself going over the threshold you should register in advance of breaching the threshold. If selling business to customer, as opposed to business to business you are going to be seen to be increasing your price, and customers have no Vat deductibility when the Vat kicks in. Better to do this earlier so can asess the impact on your demand/pricing.
