Weather For Cheltenham

Seems pretty obvious at this stage that it's not going to be a festival for mud-lovers. A couple of showers on Sunday is all we can expect between now and the tapes going up at 13.30 on Tuesday, and it is going to be WARM all week too!

Probably be some juice in the ground on Tues/Wed (good/soft probably, but heading for Good) but looks like Good (or faster!) ground for Thursday and (particularly!) Friday unless there is significant watering.

The ground angle gives a huge advantage to the clued-in punter. Who do you fancy/hate based on this weather forecast? For my money, Cause of Causes in the XCountry chase is a huge beneficiary of the benign weather. Aimed at the race all year, very dependent on good ground, with a superb course record, COC now looks like a great bet at 5/1 on Wednesday. Yes, I know he was a bigger price last week but, based on the info we have now, I am all over him like a rash, unless there is a change in the weather between now and then.

Who do you fancy, assuming a Good-ground festival and who do you think will be disadvantaged by a sound surface? Un De Seaux is an obvious one who won't like the ground in The Ryanair on Thursday, for one.

Edit: And, of course, Acapella Bourgois (who I fancied on Soft ground) will have very little chance in The RSA on a lively surface.
