16k to put it on Irish plates.
Tbh for that money I'd want a guarantee and simply go to a dealer.
There are a few of them on DD for max 17k which are similar to what you posted but from a dealer.
    The audi.. meh

    A6 Is the 5 equivalent I'd have thought ?

    It's a manual. In a 5 series.... that's a diesel!

Your spending 16k on a car and concerned about the cost of 17" tyres? Bin the run flats and your talking ~600e for a full set of mid range tyres.

I'd strongly advise you to think very hard about whether you can comfortably afford one they have a fun habit of popping up with four-figure repair bills.

Spend 10k on a top spec e60 and you've 6k there for repairs/maintainance/running costs etc.

Thanks for the feedback. 600 for a set of 4 no problem just not sure could justify 1600 on a set. I'm not in any rush to buy so appreciate the replies on Boards. I drove this earlier in week. Could get for 16k I think

Have a look at the A6 as well, much nicer interior than the 5series.

It's already been said, but worth saying again don't touch a manual 5er. The auto box is a dream.

My first F10 was an efficient dynamic 520d. They were only available in manual. My second F10 is an auto 520d and the difference is like day and night. It's no ball of fire when pulling away from the lights and I don't take corners on my door handles but it's a much nicer drive. I drove manuals for 17 years but I'd never go back now.

I ordered a full set of Hankook Run flats this morning on eiretyres for 484. Local garage fitting them for 60, so not too bad.

I recently bought a pair of 275/35/r19 Goodyear Eagle F1 run flats online for €450 delivered. Got them fitted locally for €30. The 17" run flats on the that car should be a good bit cheaper.

I'd agree with the rest of what you said though, if the OP is concerned about the cost of tyres on a 5 Series then he maybe best looking at a different type of car. That car cost circa 45k when new and can be expensive to fix if something big breaks.

It sounds low but maybe the BMW is realistic enough price wise. It's the weaker EfficientDynamics, has 100k+, manual, private, Donegal. The most old-school wood trim colour, too. Wouldn't be the most desirable combination. Wouldn't appeal to me.

    And there is that.

One of the last of the E92s I'd say. It's a UK import and there is no mention of service history in the advert. Ask the dealer for it and the old UK reg and do your own history checks. Those petrol engines can suffer from injector problems and coil packs go on them.

A friend was saying get AA out to do a full inspection. What do you think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,411 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I'd rather get a BMW specialist to inspect it once the service history has been established and verified.

Agreed , AA don't know there arsè from their elbow and will come back with reports of slow window regulators and miss something major . They'd fault a new car.
Alan Lewis is a straight operator as far as you can say that about used car salesmen but I'm not sure about workshop facilities or lack thereof.
