apartment expenses for contract work

    Hi,

I am looking at a contract position which would require my company to operate in Galway - I'm generally based in Limerick.

The contract will be for a period of one year and will involve 4 days per week.

I already own a house on which I'm paying a mortgage, so obviously wouldn't be in a position to rent in Galway, and won't be selling my house until I'd know more about a possible extension of the contract position.

I understand that my company can pay me mileage and subsistence, but I believe that renting in Galway will be a cheaper option. Is it reasonable for my company to simply rent in Galway rather than paying the subsistence (renting will be cheaper) or from a tax point of view will the company have to pay me subsistence and I rent?

    Thanks!
