Alternative to Sunset Beach Benalmadena?

So the last 2 years we have gone to Sunset Beach... It has been great and we enjoyed it. Rather than get stuck in a rut we are thinking of looking for alternatives however are a little nervous as last year we spoke to some others from Ireland who had been elsewhere and ended up coming back to Sunset.

2 adults and one 13yr old boy.

We are not drinkers, and like to relax, pool, go for walks, have nice food and have some home comforts e.g. in room wifi, satellite TV with some Irish and UK channels. Our son is Soccer mad if that makes a difference.

We were thinking maybe a villa however that may mean more cooking than we would like.

Any suggestions? Ideally flight time sub 3hrs with minimal transfer time.

You're inundated with choice on the Costas and the Algarve!

Canaries are just a four hour flight away and you've a lot more choice there too.

There's also the old adage, if it ain't broke...! If you've found somewhere you really like and it's never let you down, why waste your money taking a punt? One major drawback of a villa is for a 13 year old boy, that would probably be hell... At least in a complex there are other kids to hang out with. It's a major factor in your holiday choice now as he'll be looking for some sort of independence.

We've been taking our sun holiday in the same place in Lanzarote since we started our family and really enjoy going back. We did Cornwall instead last year for a different type of holiday and while we really enjoyed it, we couldn't wait to book this years holiday and we're off back to Lanzarote again!

We got a lovely 2 bedroom apartment with a communal pool 2 years ago in Benalmadena. It was through AirBnB. Worked out at about €100 per night. It was close to that Sunset Beach Club. I'd do the same again.

I didn't want to mention that specifically as I'm in danger of being regarded as a shill!

Seems fairly booked already... What accommodation would you suggest?

Try Salou in Costa Dorado. Great Theme Park and near Nou camp in Barcelona. A must for a soccer fan!

e-mail them directly with your dates and requirements and they'll get back to you fairly quickly.

    reservas@costasal.com

If there's nothing available there, other nice properties in the vicinity are the Nautilus Suites (nice spot, but not so much for kids) or the Jameos Playa (pricey and AI, but is very highly regarded).
