the trailer DID scream emmerich so im not surprised its the other half of the lads that brought us stargate , and kinda looks dull TBH.

That said there could be fun to be had on the story front as the notion of satalites controling the weather means "super villain bad guy " to me.

(by that i mean its a no brainer to be some terrorist lads or somesuch looking for something or they'll unleash hell)

so if they go that route it could be popcorn chomping fun.

I was about to ask if Devlin knew how to direct, then I saw that IMDb lists him as co-director. He was replaced with Jerry Bruckheimer and Danny Cannon (director of the original Judge Dredd) who did 15 mill worth of reshoots. The film was supposed to come out last year. I guess Emmerich was the talented one.

It's just the perfect excuse to stuff my face full of popcorn on a rainy afternoon....I think it's the sort of movie even the worst reviews wouldn't really put you off it.

it was a fun movie, full of character tropes, 13 year old girl can engineer, hot black chick can hacker, girl friend can impossible drive. Better than the neutrinos are mutating movie though and the space station was impressive

3* '2012' is on tonight (CH5) 10pm, (for about the 4th time this month), guess extra global warming carbon taxes need to rise.

She doesn't recognise that one of the Secret Service Agents just a few feet away is the one that pushed yer man into the car. And then nobody else says anything when she disappears away WHILE SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE MINDING THE PRESIDENT.

There has definitely been some rubbish but also some terrific stuff for me, I loved Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049, Logan, Spiderman, Baby Driver, IT, War for the planet of the apes, wind river, detroit....hmmm actually bar that I am struggling....you might be right....

Not weird at all. Lorne Balfe composed Geostorm and Steve Jablonsky did Transformers. Both are members of a film composing company called Remote Control which was founded by Hans Zimmer.

Zimmer mentors these composers and they often ghost write some cues on Zimmer's scores. As a result, a lot of music from Remote Control composers tend to sound similar.

Only made $14,760,020 domestically on a $120 million budget.

They started filming it in 2014 and it was to be released in March 2016 then October 2016 then January this year before finally getting its release this month so it seems they knew it would be a box office disaster movie

Only flaw: no recognisable American buildings were destroyed. I do like it when the Statue of Liberty is on its side in the bay.

i think it is commendable that they didnt resort to cliche.

yeah. if they kept hitting the same landmarks they'd get flak for it.

cant help thinking too that the countries hit may appeal more to the chinese crowd , so there could be an eye to targeting that market as well.

Entertaining watch, benefited from the big screen. Lots of actors you would recognise. Will do till the next blank has fallen is released. As an aside,

I could watch Robert Sheehan get murdered a dozen times and still enjoy it.

Prompted by this I've just been looking through the averages since 1982. If Hollywoods stupid blockbusters didn't do such good business overseas every studio would be bankrupted by now due to too many films making too little money.

While there is variation year by year (and certainly quarter by quarter) the overall return by film is going down down down when adjusted for ticket inflation. In 1983 it was about 40m dollars per film in 2017 terms, in 2017 the average so far is about 14m dollars per film. The average second weekend drop was 22% now its 50%, the number of films on release was just under 163 so far in 2017 it's 604.

Peak adjusted box office was hit in 2002 with $14 billion turnover in North America, it's been on the slide since then with minor rises now and again and will be about $11 billion in 2017.

More interesting than that is the death of the limited release - they used to be quite big business for the studios - usually a Woody Allen comedy or British drama or comedy that would make 40-50m dollars (adjusted) with just a few hundred copies in circulation. Now the equivalents like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel goes out on 1200 screens for it's opening weekend with the attendant costs of a national release.

im surprised it got the go ahead. there was no way it was going to catch the public's attention so unless they can get the cost of these movies down by half then they should keep their powder dry
