Ireland's Untouchables

There are many realms of public notoriety in Irish society that are subject to praise, criticism, scrutiny, and a good auld slagging from time. These include our well known sports personalities, musicians, tv personalities, politicians and even those who have made the big time in Hollywood. Newspapers can do write ups, good and bad on these groups. Gift grub can do daily skits. Online magazines can report daily gossip. So why is it that those in the Irish blogging sphere are untouchable in this regard and are provided for with all sorts of protection both online and otherwise to shield them from anything other than praise and full blown fawning? They are in the Irish public eye just as much as any of the above mentioned sectors and yet they are beyond reproach when it comes to comments that may ruffle their sponsored feathers. And fair enough if it were just their own media outlets such as their own Facebook pages or instagram accounts that they screen and monitor to ensure that it's all praise praise praise. But no, other media outlets, with no connection to these bloggers,go above and beyond to ensure not a bad word is said against them. Why the hell is this? Even our President doesn't receive exemption from critique and comment. Why are these grown women and men in such a league of protection? #snowflakeoverload

They are untouchable because no one has heard of them outside of their own tiny echo chamber of a few hundred people and no body reads the vacous self indulgent dribble they spew

In other words there is no point poking fun at the already pathetic

Agreed. However their sheep like followings are much larger than a few hundred though with some having follower figures over 100k so they are very much in the public domain, a very cushioned and guarded public domain at that.

I agree ratmouse. How many blogger threads have been shut down now for apparent "gossiping". I detest how it's called gossiping when it's women talking about women. How is it gossip to discuss something that someone has publicly said on Snapchat or posted on Instagram? Is it gossip if I go over to the Ray D'arcy thread and say I didn't like his show today or the segment about marathons? No. It's me discussing what he said on his show and having a critical opinion on it.
So sick of good discussion threads being shut down because bloggers and their overly inflated egos can't handle genuine discussion around their actions that they themselves posted online for the world to see.

First of all, I've never read an Irish blog so I have no ****ing idea who Irish bloggers are.
Second, I've never heard or read anybody talking about Irish bloggers so...
Yeah, that's about it. Basically I know they exist but, probably like most people, have no interest in, or knowledge of them.

Agreed. Una Mulally is getting away with a lot of shíte.

That's my point. You can comment on any other "personality" but not these guys .And it's certainly not gossip if it'si n reference to what they themselves have said or posted, it's actually a statement of fact. Talk about being a protected Irish species!

Because all these people have is personal opinions based on their feelings.

So any criticism is de facto personal criticism as their blog is an inherent part of their persona

I think being the kind of person that uploads inane videos about your "fabulous" life on youtube or product placement selfies on Instagram ten times a day is punishment enough.

I hear you but don't necessarily agree .Some of them claim to a whiz at all sorts, make-up, fashion, diets, fitness, etc.

    Completely agree.

I wonder is it because the bloggers are more likely to come on here and actually see the comments about them and in turn, kick up a fuss?
As opposed to sports pundits or musicians or whoever who probably wouldn't see comments.

I haven't posted in any because there are strict rules but I do read them and hate the way the blogger threads are instantly branded 'bitchy' because it's mostly women talking about other women. A certain Mod telling posters to "put the handbags away" ridiculous and patronising IMO.

If you went to the soccer forum I bet you'd see harsh words said against teams and managers, why isn't that bitchy?

    i think you're looking for http://www.gurugossiper.com/ OP

it's a site to gossip on all these beauty bloggers and internet famous people. the traffic that forum gets is crazy. 'cos if women love one thing, it's to bitch about other women!

I don't think "havin a bitch", is a trait that is gender specific, to be fair.
And besides the point, the threads that have been shut down have not been "bitchy". They simply discuss the things bloggers disclose on their social platforms, ads, products, ASAI, selling clothes etc..
Nobody, and I mean nobody, is like "omg state of her hair you think she'd fix her manky teeth", which that "bitchy" site you've linked is renowned for.

By all means discuss bloggers and the whatnot...

But please don't use AH to discuss the charters and rules of other forums on boards. That is something that can be raised with the forum mods or in feedback.

    Cheers.

Exactly, nobody says anything nasty. People just discuss what's being posted. If these bloggers only want P.S. I Love Yous, then they really shouldn't out themselves in the public domain. Your can't have it every way. Oh wait, to a certain degree you can as long as you are protected by various reporters and media sites.

But now I think this is in reference to a particular female blogger.

    I was confused.

But now I think this is in reference to a particular female blogger.

Not in reference to any particular blogger per se, more so the entire Irish industry of blogging that seems to be so protected on boards. Loads of threads on the blogging forum have been shut due to "gossiping", and the moderation is oppressively strict.

When they are breaking the rules of the ASAI so constantly, I think it's unfair that they can't be called out on it.

We need a Prime time expose and a public inquiry. Only then can the people of Ireland have closure on this issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 697 ✭✭✭Cria

I agree on many platforms you cannot question these people or their actions unfortunately in this day and age comments like your gossiping or put handbags down are still allowed it can be demeaning..
regardless of discussing bloggers and their behaviours or anything else when it is women discussing they are called gossips and nothing like that is said to men you see and hear comments like that everywhere it saddens me ..
In response to the topic it baffles me how protected bloggers are when it comes to any negativity I'm not directing this to any specific platform because it happens on multiple platforms. ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 697 ✭✭✭Cria

Absolutely the company and whoever is breaking the law should be named .. you put yourself out for public consumption you need to expect to be called out when your behaviour is not within the guidelines....

Absolutely no bitchiness from regular posters at all ..
Its 2017 and comments about women being bitchy and gossipy are allowed to be posted on these sites .. why do we have to be 'bitchy' when we discuss other women it's simply an opinion no different to a man talking about a manager of a football team .. it really is a shame that women can be spoken about in that manner ..
Everything these days is pc but when it comes to comments to the female gender it's open season ..

The protection of bloggers isn't just confined to media outlets. For e.g., Fairy's mam wades in to defend her on instagram or facebook anytime anyone says anything not considered praise for her daughter. Quite pathetic having your Mam defend you when your in your 30s.

    What? Bloggers are untouchable?

Dont think they are that important to be honest

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

They're not important, at all! But they literally are untouchable in terms of ever giving an opinion on their posts/blogs/etch. They receive huge protection when being discussed in various media sites.

TBH rosemary is the only one that's allowed to be discussed if you mention any others in a negative manner and I don't mean slating just questioning actions then they get closed..
unfortunately this seems to have been questioned regularly over s long period of time ..
