Engaging (?) a solicitor

Not sure of the teminology so feel free to correct me as required.

I spoke by phone with a solicitor re an employment issue. He requested a brief written synopsis of the situation, and to provide my postal address etc.

I received an email from his office containing a letter re retainer and the Terms of Engagement.

Is receiving these an indication he is taking on the case/ complaint or is this simply required of all solicitors when they engage with a prospective client?

Generally speaking, these are sent by a solicitor to the client at the outset of a particular matter. However, if you have a doubt as to whether he is taking on the case, you should contact him and ask him to clarify.
