In general with a car that age you would be better off to check yourself that all lights are working, all tyres are in good condition and put it through for the test, then if it fails bring it somewhere with the fail sheet and tell them to fix the faults.

Not sure if Cathal Johnston is still around
    www.fallonautoservices.com also good

As said, don't bother with pre-nct. Just check all lights and fluids and then go for the test.

Pre Nct tests are a waste of money and can be used as an excuse to charge money for things up front that may or may not fail. If the car is due a service then get it serviced as normal plus do some basic NCT stuff yourself such as checking the condition of your tyres, make sure your headlights are aligned, etc. Then send it through the NCT and let them tell you what needs fixing if any.
