    Hey guys,
Completed my level 7 many moons ago in 2009 and now looking to get cracking on my level 8. For my level 7 im pretty sure my final grade wasnt all that great 47% overall if i remember correctly, definitely not a 2.2 anyway. So I had a look at a few IT's to do a one year upgrade to level 8 but the ones so far seem to have a minimum requirement of 50% for entry. Anyone out there know if some institutions offer any other pathways for mature students, interview or extra exam I can do so that I could gain entry. Surely I dont have to start all over again for the sake of 3%. Any info would be amazing!
    Cheers

Apply. You'll get a place. They sell places.

It's not that easy to get a place on a course.

47% is barely a pass, generally colleges require at least a 2.2 in level 7 to proceed to a level 8 but if you have enough experience since finishing your degree you could be still be considered. You might aswell apply, you'll need to write a strong personal statement outlining all of the experience youve gained since getting your degree and have some good professional references.

Colleges will take into account your experience outside of college also. I assume you're a mature student there will likely be places set aside for mature students

If it was last year you finished tyour Level 7, I'd sy something but you would be regarded as a mature student after such a long time so I's imagine you'd be fine.

Apply for definite because that's what these level 8 add ons are for. Make sure you include any work experience or volunteer work you undertook since 09. Colleges like to see this on applications.

^^ This. Unless there is something drastically wrong, you will almost certainly get a place.

As a mature student, you will be asked to undertake a (very informal) interview, just to be sure. So don't sweat it, go and apply. You will be fine.

Its not that easy to get a place, level 8 courses have a limited number of places, when I did my degree only half of us from my level 7 course got accepted onto the add on level 8.

Your personal statement, references and experience will help you but its still not a guarantee, the current students of the level 7 will have first priority in getting a place.

Applying as a mature student tends to be a lot more straightforward for the vast majority of PG courses though. I've done three. All involved a chat. Not an interview. The 'interviewers' questions tended towards the same areas in all three.

    1. Experience/interest in the field?
    2. Can you balance study with work/family committments.
    3. Can you pay?

Instutions want candidates with a strong liklihood of finishing courses. It looks better.
