    Hi all
I'm in a bit of a stickler. I booked honeymoon flights with the ever reliable air lingus to new York from shannon for next Dec thinking everything was done and dusted only to have them ring me yesterday telling me the return flight has been cancelled already. No new flight at a later date, they must be finishing up in shannon as they don't have any flights back after the 5th Jan. Anyway I now have to fly into dublin and as much as it's only a few extra hours I had a flight booked for somewhere else. My prob is I could book a return with united Airlines into shannon but a one way trip is 3 times the price. However if I book a return flight out and back with united it's a good price but I don't need the outgoing flight. My question is can I just not show up for the shannon to new York flight and only use the return?
Sorry for the long winded post!

No, you can't. If you miss any segment of a multi-segment flight, you're a no-show and all the later segments are, or may be, cancelled, and the seat resold to someone else. The only segment you can safely miss is the very last segment, because at that point there's nothing left to cancel.

Since Are Lingus cancelled your flight, you should be entitled to a refund.
Cancel the Are Lingus ticket and fly United.

I'd suggest that you phone them, say that Dublin is not acceptable to you, and ask if they will book you on the United flight instead. If they won't, then ask will they route you through Boston. If they can't offer you anything suitable, you are entitled to a refund on the whole trip. Be aware that Aer Lingus are notoriously slow at paying refunds, so ask them when you will get your money back.

I wasn't really given that option to get the refund I should've asked I ended up switching to Dublin but told them I'm really not happy abt it and if a flight from shannon does come back I want it back there. With the United flights they fly to London 1st then new york so that put me off them

Aer Lingus suspend the Shannon-New York service from early January until mid-March each year.

They serve the Shannon-Boston route all year round if that helps.

United fly all year round directly from Shannon to Newark but not every day of the week (current winter schedule daily ex-Wednesday westbound).

Not correct if you have a return flight booked and miss the outbound you can turn up for the return and can board as normal. The OP had separate return flights booked.

OP should just get the refund from EI, they will give it.

Why did Aer Lingus have JFK loaded anyway, it always takes a break from JAN-MAR, strange that they'd allow someone to book.

    Resuming in 6 days.

Airlines tend not always to get the schedule changes such as this formally loaded instantly when they extend the booking window dates on the website - they are very often done shortly afterwards when someone reviews the schedules and that does lead to schedule changes such as this.

It's certainly not an Aer Lingus specific issue as I've suffered multiple schedule changes over the years when booking significantly in advance.

Could you not book a New York to Shannon flight for the date that you want with a return date later? that way you'd be using the outward portion and not the return therefor it wouldn't automatically be cancelled.
