    S4 states a person on board a fishing boat shall ensure that, in any period of twenty-four hours, no more than-

    (a) One lobster is caught.

    What if your not onboard a "fishing boat," i can not imagine you would be able to circumvent the rule that easily?

    May to September only and :
    Under the new regulations, recreational or private fishers can fish up to six pots, and can retain five crabs and one lobster daily.

    Furthermore they may not store crabs or lobsters at sea or sell or offer for sale any of their catches.

    Maybe I am wrong but they do not appear to define a "fishing boat".

    Why did they not just say a "boat".

    They say a boat on page 5 but that is after this bit -
    (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation)

    Which edition of the regulations are you looking at? They seem to be redone every year or so.

    Be careful where you drop lobster pots- May be on a local's long established spot.

    I know of one case where a weekend visitor found a rabbit in his pot.

    A subtle variation on the horse's head

    The regulation provides two pertinent definitions:

    “Union fishing vessel” means a fishing vessel flying the flag of an EU Member State and registered in the Union;

    “licensed fishing boat” means an Irish sea-fishing boat or a Union fishing vessel;
