Hi folks, I'm in he middle of doing up costing for my new build. Window prices vary hugely and looking som advice on companies with good service and a quality product. I've looked at Munster, Nordan, rational and ambiwood. I'm going for a sliding sash aluclad and want to buy Irish.
Any advice from people who have used these guys recently would be a great help, Pm only obviously!!
    Thanks

Also any general things to watch out for when picking a window would be great too and price guides

You only have one option if that’s the case and you’ve mentioned them above.

Lots of things. Windows and doors are one of the most complex components in a house and typically one of the least well specified.

    Hi folks,

I'd appreciate any input by PM.

We're currently seeking quotes for new windows on an existing house. We were close to ordering side opening UPVC from a local company but are hesitating because we like the look of AluClad. Currently looking at Timber-Alu and PVC-Alu options from Rationel and Munster, due to visit showrooms on Saturday.

Would appreciate any feedback on either product and quality of installation.

    Thanks

on Sash windows, is there and issue with sealing on them due to the nature of a sliding sash. Ive seen one in a showroom and the play in the window when the window was closed was massive, when questioned the sales person said this was typical of all sliding sash. we have since found a Irish supplier that has as sash window that opens horizontally with a descent u value

    hi covey99
what is the decent u-value that you are getting.
the best I have found for sliding sash are 1.4 for double and 1.2 for triple glazed. these are the combined window value for hardwood windows.
my general feeling is that sliding sash will be less airtight than casement type windows

1.3 for Double glazed unit and 1.0 for triple glazed unit. Costello Windows Town house sash

Thats a 'sash and case' window rather then a sliding sash (and far from the most elegant interpretation).

Ok, getting back to the windows!! If money wasnt an issue, which window would you go for in sliding sash.....alu or upvc, triple or double???

I was quoted 12k for 4 hardwood sliding sash windows, 7k for pvc sliding sash and just under 4k for Townhouse "fake" pvc sliding sash. Windows are approx 1.5m x 1.5m so they will have fixed side panels. Maybe hardwood would look better but not 8k better! I think they're a good compromise and don't look too unlike painted hardwood. Plus these are more airtight. I put hardwood sliding sash in a house refurb a few years back and I must say they're a little draughty. All that said.......I might have a different opinion after they're installed!

If its just looks your after and not performance or longevitity you may aswell stay with PVC
